ABOUT
Read morePietro Lo Casto is an Italian visual artist based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Working across photography, sculpture, installation, and writing, he explores the intersections of ecology, community, and visuality through long-term research projects in Southeast Asia. He holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Chiang Mai University, where he is currently a visiting lecturer in the Department of Multidisciplinary Arts.
In 2025, supported by the Unidee Illy Award from Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto, he initiated "Moist Maps", a collaborative initiative bringing together artists, activists, and local communities to reimagine the Mekong through the materiality of its river weeds. The project was presented at the "Collaboration Afield" conference at Harvard University.
Pietro has exhibited internationally, including at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) and Pattani Biennale, and has published in e-flux and Asia Pacific Viewpoint. His article "Learning How to See" examines how shared visual practices can challenge extractive ways of seeing and support local perspectives.
